So Germany beat Turkey last night and the world didn't end. There were no riots, no burnt out cars, no cops with batons breaking heads. The miserabilists who predicted these outcomes must be feeling bitterly disappointed today.

Instead, there were just lots of people out celebrating - including many Turkish fans. On my late night dog walking stint last night it seemed that most of Munich's car owners were driving round in circles, one hand permanently on the horn, with passengers and flags hanging out the windows. A number of cars had both German and Turkish flags flying - not an uncommon sight over the last few weeks.

I found a couple of good articles telling this more positive and more truthful story in the Guardian and at Spiegel Online. Spiegel also has a good photo gallery.
